ERP migration checklist — finance teams locking chart of accounts, balances, and cutover before go-live

ERP migrations fail quietly when finance assumptions are vague. The go-live date arrives, but opening balances don't tie, tax codes are wrong, and auditors lose confidence on day one.

Lock these before cutover

  1. Chart of accounts & dimensions — map legacy accounts to the new CoA; agree retention vs consolidation rules.
  2. Opening balances & subledgers — AR, AP, inventory, and FA must reconcile to the trial balance.
  3. Tax / GST masters — India GST codes, HSN/SAC, and posting profiles validated against sample transactions.
  4. Period close playbook — who owns accruals, bank rec, and FA depreciation in week one?
  5. Audit trail acceptance — sample journals from procure-to-pay and order-to-cash traced end-to-end.
